School Restaurant’s co-owner is opening a 24/7 barbecue spot on Dundas West
The building that Hudson Kitchen left just over one month ago didn’t sit vacant for very long: chef Brad Moore of School Restaurant is taking over the Dundas West and Palmerston corner—which, in the past five years, has also been home to the Palmerston Café and Jamie Kennedy’s Provenance—to open an all-hours barbecue joint. Old School (not, as you might have guessed, New School) will be open 24/7 for those early-morning and late-night meat cravings. Moore, along with chef Ian Kapitan, will serve comfort food, like pulled pork–topped pancakes and banana splits, but customers will also be able to get their goods to go: take-out will be available, and syrups, sauces, pies and meat by the pound will be for sale from the spot’s “general store.” And fans of moonshine (an as-yet untapped liquor trend) will be happy to know that the licensed space will host occasional “hooch tastings.” Old School is set to be in session this March.

24/7 BBQ is extraordinarily ambitious. I hope they can keep their standards up.
You’ve also got to wonder if the latest BBQ craze hasn’t already peaked.
peaking, not peaked. no one’s doing a kiss-ass job yet. there’s hope with the new guys in Toronto (BaJu, Buster Rhinos). bar needs to be raised.
and yeah, no clue why you’d do a 24/7 bbq joint unless you think cab drivers want bbq at 4 AM on a Monday.

Someone should start a magazine called East Toronto Life, to cover everything east of Yonge which Toronto Life neglects.
Totally agree….I never see anything written about any restaurant or shops In east york, leslieville, leaside….nothing. Both here and blogto. I don’t understand why east Enders don’t get any attention. It’s always liberty village, then annex, ossington….east york is toronto too.

Like every craze in Toronto…just a slew of bad imitations and half-ass interpretations of the original thing.
Alas save your breath or in this case your finger tips, it will never change. This place isn’t even open – just rumoured or planed and TL is already flapping there gums about it. So it is completely obvious and clearly transparent this is a Queen West & King West publication. The just don’t fancy anything east – It is simply a bold fact.
This article isn’t even correct. I contact SCHOOL to get more information. They told me this restaurant has nothing to do with them. It’s not even the same people.

I was talking to the new owner today. Traditional BBQ , old school. He said he was going to do smoked turkey. Smoked turkey is amazing.
Had the pleasure to taste the big old smoker last night… Burger sliders, briskette , ribs and chicken was a great treat for the taste buds! Welcome to the hood, 24/7 will suit me fine!
