We’ve just received the news that Salad King will be ready to serve its first bowl of golden curry on Tuesday, February 22, with the official grand reopening to follow on March 16. Ernest Liu, owner of the venerable cheap eats temple, confirmed that Toronto Hydro started its long-delayed work this morning (initial reports had the opening date pegged as February 12). Liu is hopeful that the job, required for the new high volume kitchen’s power draw, will be complete by the end of the week. Construction on the dining room is already in its final phases.

As mentioned on Twitter a couple weeks back, Salad King will be holding a contest to celebrate the restaurant’s grand reopening. Apparently, the contest involves some sort of social-media scavenger hunt, running from February 22 until two days before the official reopening date. Posters featuring the crown logo will be hidden around downtown, with cryptic clues announced on Facebook and Twitter. Various awards will be handed out, but the grand prize is a weekly dose of free pad Thai.

In other Salad King-related news, police have officially cited arson as the cause of the fire that destroyed the heritage building at Yonge and Gould that once housed the restaurant. No one has yet been arrested.
