Mövenpick’s Toronto rebirth comes as 200 employees are let go by its predecessor
Mövenpick Marché is set to make its Toronto comeback in the coming months, only it will be under somewhat inauspicious circumstances. When Richtree Market at Brookfield Place officially closed its doors Sunday to make way for the Swiss market-style eatery, an unnamed worker told the Star that all of the Richtree employees—roughly 200 people—were laid off or fired in the days preceding the closure. There is no word yet on whether Mövenpick will rehire any of them (a discussion about the employment situation is underway here on The Dish). Mövenpick plans to resurrect the Brookfield Place spot in the next six to eight months and get nine more locations bustling soon thereafter. Richtree will keep its remaining six locations open.
