Midtown’s Lai Toh Heen to close in September
Metropolitan Hotels put out a press release yesterday afternoon announcing that Lai Toh Heen, the cheaper Davisville cousin of downtown’s acclaimed dim sum temple Lai Wah Heen, will be closing for good on Sept. 18 of this year. “Lai Toh Heen has seen many successes in the past five years and now it’s time to take what we’ve learned and apply this culinary knowledge to our other restaurants,” said Metropolitan president Henry Wu in the release. No word yet on what might replace the midtown favourite.
This is sad, sad, sad news!
SO SAD! I live in the area and it is one of the best Chinese food places in all of Toronto. The least that Lai Wah Heen can do is add some of Lai Toh Heen’s amazing dishes to their menu; salt baked chicken, julienne hoisin beef, szechuan chicken and cucumbers. I’ll be eating there everyday until it closes it’s doors. A real loss.
This is very sad indeed. Lai Toh Heen is definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants in the city (even better than Hong Kong).
The fantastic service & wonderful ambiance will be greatly missed as well.
We will definitely be dining there until as much as possible until the doors close as well.
It seems alot of dim sum places have closed. Any recommendations by toronto life?
Too bad, but they were really expensive so I can see that it’d be hard to sustain a large client base.
Sad news. My girlfriend, Coco, and I would regularly go there. We enjoyed the authentic and creative dishes as well as the great service. It will be missed.
Lai Toh Heen is definitely one of the best Chinese restuarants in Town. This is such sad news. My bf and I don’t know where else we can go now for Chinese dining with nice ambiance.
