Introducing: Market Street Catch, the less chaotic Buster’s Sea Cove spin-off
(Image: Jackie Pal)
Name: Market Street Catch
Contact Info: 14 Market St., 647-391-8140, marketstreetcatch.com , @MarketSt_Catch
Neighbourhood: St. Lawrence Market
Owner: Tom Antonarakis, owner of Buster’s Sea Cove food stall and food truck.
The Food: All types of seafood, including octopus, calamari, smelts and salmon, are displayed on ice—so fresh you may spot a fin twitching. Favourites like the halibut and chips from Buster’s Sea Cove and the fish-taco plate from its food truck are all available at Market Street Catch. New items that you won’t find at either sister location include pickerel, arctic char and an oyster po’ boy. Three large chalkboards display a variety of ways to eat the day’s catch: via roll, poutine, fried or grilled. (Yes, lobster poutine.)
The Drinks: San Pellegrino sparkling fruit beverages, regular pop and freshly squeezed juices, including a sunflower sprout lemonade.
The Place: Just across the street from Buster’s Sea Cove (the sister food stall located in St. Lawrence Market), Market Street Catch offers all the same buzz, but with less chaos and extended hours. A wall-size mural opposite the counter depicts a harbor in Rhodes, setting the nautical scene. Customers can watch cooks fillet, flip and flambé all sorts of seafood in the open-concept kitchen.
The Numbers:
• 3,907 miles to Morocco, where Market Street Catch sources their octopus
• 50 lbs of halibut grilled and served every day
• 30 years in the food business for owner Tom Antonarakis
• 2.5 minutes on each side, the perfect cooking time for fail-proof shrimp
• 11 different fishes to choose from
• 1 food truck in the works

Being fan’s of Buster’s in St. Lawrence Market, my better half and I decided to stop by the less busy, roomier Market Street Catch this afternoon. Unlike what we would normally do with Buster’s, we decided to order and sit in the restaurant (living close we normally take the food with us from Buster’s, as there is never much space, indoor or out).
