In this edition of The Weekender, a culinary tour of Kensington Market, a festival of indie theatre, and three more things to do in Toronto this weekend.

BOATING

Toronto International Boat Show
Boating enthusiasts and cottage-goers will congregate this weekend to ogle luxury yachts, racing powerboats, classic canoes, and everything else nautical. Of course, the world’s largest indoor lake will be back, for those who fancy a test drive. Jan. 11–19. Tickets $15–$22. Direct Energy Centre, 100 Princes’ Blvd., torontoboatshow.com

THEATRE

Next Stage Theatre Festival
From the Toronto Fringe comes a selection of ten indie theatre shows, most of them new works by artists who have staged performances during past Fringe Festivals. The subject matter ranges from musicals to political dramas, and tickets are relatively cheap. Conveniently, there will be a beer tent by the box office, where actors and audience members can gather for some drinks. Until Jan 19. Tickets $10-$15. Factory Theatre, 125 Bathurst St., fringetoronto.com

MUSIC

Long Winter: Year Two, Volume Three
Long Winter is back with a lineup of bands, art installations, dance shows and performance art. Plus, there will be tasty treats by the Galette Girls, and even a few matches of kung fu volleyball at the Long Winter Arcade. Jan. 10. Pay what you can. The Great Hall, 1087 Queen St. W., torontolongwinter.com

FOOD

A Taste of Kensington
The above-freezing temperatures being forecast for this weekend call for some outdoor culinary fun. Foodies on Foot will be traipsing through Kensington Market, sampling treats from a variety of shops in the iconic neighbourhood. Jan. 12. Tickets $69. 323 Augusta Ave., foodiesonfoot.ca

FLOWERS

Allan Gardens Christmas Flower Show (FREE!)
If spare moments over the holidays were scarce, don’t fret: families can still catch the Allan Gardens Christmas Flower Show. If the photos are anything to go by, it’s much more than just poinsettias. Until Jan. 12. Free. Allan Gardens Conservatory, 19 Horticultural Ave., Toronto Bike Month
