Bar Volo, Toronto’s original craft beer mecca, is closing

Bar Volo regulars have just five more months to pour one out for the best brewpub this city has ever seen. After almost 30 years, Toronto’s original craft beer bar is having to call it quits, closing to make room for a 44-storey condo. Operated at 587 Yonge St. by the Morana family since 1988, Bar Volo began as an Italian restaurant before becoming the beer mecca that it is today, with more than 30 taps and an even bigger selection of hard-to-find bottles. Staff will pour the last pints from the alphabet’s-worth of taps this September. On a more positive note, co-owners Tomas and Julian Morana are still focused on opening their new location: a bar in Little Italy dedicated to sour and barrel-aged brews. Looks like the glass is half full, after all.
