TIFF RED CARPET: Free Angela

Though TIFF has loads of movies based on true events (see: Argo or The Impossible), there’s nothing like a documentary to create a real sense of immediacy. Filmmaker Shola Lynch’s Free Angela and All Political Prisoners had its world premiere last night, and the subject of the doc, the legendary radical activist Angela Davis, walked the red carpet in black. Plenty of stars showed up at the premiere, including a dapper Danny Glover and the whole Pinkett Smith clan (easily one of the most photogenic families ever). Jada Pinkett Smith helped drum up financial support for the doc, while husband Will’s production company was behind its release (with a little help from Jay-Z’s entertainment company Roc Nation). And, though Jada showed some back in a plunging white dress, it was Willow and Jaden (looking more and and more like the Fresh Prince every day) who showed the most red carpet moxie.
