Food Network Canada announces a slew of new series for the fall
Food Network Canada has released its fall lineup, and it looks delicious (if one’s definition of delicious includes spending many hours on a couch). A grand total of 13 new shows are set to hit the air beginning August 27, four of them all-new (Chef Michael’s Kitchen, SugarStars, Restaurant Takeover and Food Factory) and the rest Canadian premieres of already-established foodie series, including: Chef Wanted With Anne Burrell, Chuck’s Week Off, Cupcake Champions, Nigella Kitchen, Meat Men and 24 in 24. Here’s what to expect from the new shows:
Chef Michael’s Kitchen
Michael Smith (formerly of Chef Abroad, Chef at Home, Chef at Large and The Inn Chef) mines some familiar territory: breaking down the cooking techniques of traditional dishes for viewers who find themselves not so at-home in the kitchen. Of course there’s a twist: he then teaches them how to impress themselves (and others) with easy but effective embellishments to add pizazz to what can be somewhat humdrum meals.
SugarStars
Billed as a “real life sitcom,” this new series follows so-called “dessert divas” Elle Daftarian, Yolanda Gampp, Casper Hydar, and Antonella Grillone Kousipetkou at Toronto’s Petite and Sweet, a specialty dessert and luxe event planning boutique in Summerhill. We’re imagining Real Housewives crossed with Ace of Cakes, with even more sugar involved. Sounds like a recipe for (concocted) drama.
Restaurant Takeover
A decidedly sneakier version of the notorious Restaurant Makeover series, this show puts two industry gurus (one chef and one designer) undercover at a floundering restaurant to determine just what is going on behind the scenes. After that, it’s pretty much like the original series. Expect hilarious/horrifying clips from hidden cameras, as well as appearances from Corbin Tomaszeski of C5 and Dinner Party Wars, Mistura’s Massimo Capra and Top Chef Canada’s Andrea Nicholson and Cherie Stinson.
Food Factory
Go behind the scenes at various food factories for a look at how food is made on production lines. The show plans to reveal the ingredients, techniques and manufacturing processes that contribute to the creation of, what the press release deems to be, “our favourite treats.” No word yet whether this will include Cheezies (and if it will, do you really want to know?).
Corbin Tomaszeski is an egomaniacal douche with limited skills, who once claimed to have invented the sandwich. That he constitutes a bold face name highlights the dire state of CanCon. A walking, breathing reason to cancel one’s cable subscription.
Yeah …. someone who speaks the truth . but let’s think about how this can be applied to so many food ‘personalities’ on the food network ..
G: While it sounds like you might know C.T. from personal experience, I couldn’t stand the guy just watching him on Restaurant Makeover. Those unpleasant qualities you describe came through all too clearly on camera.
Are you sure you’ve got the right egomaniacal douche with limited skills? I think you’re confusing this guy with Michael Smith, but maybe not, because you didn’t add smarmy.
Dire state of CanCon indeed.
I cannot wait for this SugarStars to air! It looks amazing and delicious!!!!
I have a new idea for Michael Smith’s next show “Chef Goes Away”. Seriously this is the best they can do?
I am very disapointed in the last year’s line up of food shows. What happened to Giada, Rachael Ray, Ina Garten, Nigella Lawson, Michael Smith? These were all great shows that taught me so much about cooking. These new shows with Guy (whose obesety and huge appetite grosses me out), and the insane and loud Iron Chef just gives me a headache but not an apetite. I would like to see more calm cooking shows that actually teach you something. I am sick of reality shows that aren’t so real and not so entertaining. Please, please bring back the original style of cooking show. Everyone I have talked to no longer enjoys the Food Network like they used to.
Food Canada Network needs to watch some over the pond programming. Big Chef Lil Chef, Jamie’s Great Britain, Gordon At Home,… for an island, the UK has some fantastic TV concepts we don’t even bother to emulate. Julia Child was awesome, and her show was so simple – even taught you to cook properly. Britain is going back to that sort of programming. Canada obviously doesn’t have the wherewithal to take the lead, but at least would be wise to follow.
I may be a total Food Nerd but I have always wanted you to do a show on food manufcatures and will love Food Factory!!!….I am totally going to PVR all the new ones. I loved Andrea on Top Chef and have missed Restaurant Makeover!!
I can no longer watch this network repeat repeat repeat where is Laura Calder Barefoot Contessa and numerous other chefs that used to be on. This channel has become one dimensional and I will be dropping it off my list. I don’t mind the occasional reality show I do like chopped and it has now become monotonous. This used to be a really great channel.
It’s the “Somewhat Food-Related Network”… I’m so disappointed to see mostly reality-tv style programming. Where are the COOKING SHOWS? This is ridiculous! I keep hoping we’ll get the actual “Cooking Channel” and I’ll drop my subscription to Food Network in a flash – I may do it regardless.
I totally concur with the folks that are turned off by the recent trend to turn the Food Network into Amateur Hour and Unreality TV. I’ve stopped watching, but I keep checking with hope to see if FN has come to its senses.
Antonella Grillone thats my home owner :) shes great!!
NO KIDDING! Why is the network NOT LISTENING to the VIEWERS????
We want the cooking show personalities that got us all hooked in the first place!
Why do you think so many people watched?
Ever look at the TV Guide?
Not enough reality TV for you?
Geeeeeesh cmon FN give us what we want pulleeeeeeeze!
I totaly agree with the viewers above about the amazing shows that used to be on this channel and now there is a lot of nonsence and i am seriosly considering cancelling this channel i hope that someone is paying attention
What happened to all the COOKING SHOWS????
I loved watching Barefoot Contessa, Giada and of course Jamie Oliver! Please stop all the reality shows….There is nothing about a Food Truck Race that sounds Great to me…

I used to LOVE watching the Food Network with Bobby Flay, Everyday Italian, Barefoot Contessa, Rachel Ray, Nigella etc.. I can’t believe the crap that is on everyday now! what a waste of time and money.
I am sick of Diners drive-Ins and Dives…so boring and gross food. I want to see real chefs making real food that we can make at home. That is the Food Network that I want to watch again. PLEASE bring it back!!!
I agree with most of the people on here and have sent notes to the network on numerous occasions. This network used to have COOKING shows. I learned SO much about cooking from this network a few years ago. Now it has turned into the new MTV!! The music channel without music.
I WANT COOKING SHOWS!! I used to watch this channel from the second I came home at night until I went to sleep. It was my favourite thing to watch. However, I am not opening a restaurant, don’t care for cake decorating contests, and if I wanted to see a restaurant be redesigned I would watch HGTV. I want to improve my cooking! There website doesn’t even have that many recipes on it anymore! The website used to be my go to for a recipe in a hurry. This ridiculous – listen to your viewers!!!! Or should I say ex-viewers
Re:Sugar Stars
I enjoy cooking shows, competitions, etc. But the “actors” on this show are off the wall. .I can’t stand their childish talk and squealing!! They could behave grown up and still have fun. I don’t watch it after one or two tries. Just saying!
where can i watch the food factory???
i cant find any video online :(
i want to watch food factory
