Davis Cup comes to Toronto, even though we’re not very good
Canada may not be known for its dominance in the world of tennis (we’re currently ranked 38th in the world), but at least Torontonians will get a chance to see some of the best players from the Americas competing on our turf this fall. Hogtown is set to host part of the Davis Cup for the Americas Zone Group 1 competition. The event runs from September 17 to 19 at Rexall Centre on York University’s campus (also the site of next month’s Rogers Cup men’s playoff). Canada already lost to Colombia in March, so there’s no chance the team will be competing against top-ranked teams like Spain and the U.S. The best we can hope for is the Canadians keeping their spot in the group—well, that, and getting tickets to one of the better games.
