Chris Bosh Watch: Toronto all-star to Miami nobody
For five straight seasons with the Toronto Raptors, Chris Bosh was a lock as a National Basketball Association all-star. That’s all changed now that he’s taken his talents (and his inflated ego) to Miami’s sunnier shores. These days, Bosh is an afterthought on the all-star ballot, plummeting from 10th in overall voting last season to an unremarkable 24th this season. Overrated, anyone?
According to the Toronto Star’s Dave Feschuk, the answer is a definitive yes:
But while he began his first season with the Heat lamenting his Toronto-based obscurity, Bosh, in going from Canada’s No. 1 to Miami’s third wheel behind LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, has rarely been more ignored. Certainly the NBA fans who’ve been voting for the all-star team think far less of him in his new role… And though the Heat, after a 9-8 start, have reeled off an astonishing 21 wins in their past 22 games, Bosh is getting very little of the credit for his team’s awesomeness.
Toronto sports scribes have been all over Bosh this year, and none more than Feschuk, but they’re not alone, nor without good reason; don’t forget, Bosh essentially checked out midway through last season, and who could forget his ridiculous comments bemoaning the lack of good cable TV in the Great White North?
On the court, Bosh has been less than spectacular. He’s a role player alongside bona fide Miami stars Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. He’s averaging just over 18 points a game—two fewer than his career average—while averaging three fewer shots and three fewer free-throw attempts. He’s a good player on a very good team. But he’s by no means as great as he’s made himself out to be.
Sure, Toronto sports fans and the media alike may be sucking on some sour grapes. But Bosh went to Miami to raise his profile and be the man. And, well, he hasn’t and he’s not.

This is pathetic. His ego? What ego? He makes a few comments about asking what team to go to and there being less options on Canadian TV and all of a sudden he’s a smug idiot? For the record, Canadian broadcasters are far behind their U.S. counterparts. I’m studying at Canada’s best Radio and Television program, I would know.
Whats more important, being an All Star or being a winner? Ask Vince Carter if you don’t already know the answer.
Who wouldn’t pale in comparison to Lebron James? The team that now has the worst record in the League was blowing everybody out of the water with him during the regular season last year. The Cavs had the best record for two years in a row, and now they’re the worst by a long shot. Thats a testament to Lebron’s greatness.
Chris Bosh is far less aggressive than either Wade or Lebron, and it shows. But that by no means makes him a nobody.
All the ranting and whining in news columns makes Toronto writers sound like bitter little girls who are now upset because they’re covering a team marooned on an island of irrelevancy. Get over it.
He did not go to Miami to be the man. He has said that repeatedly.
He’s winning. That is what matters and what will be remembered. Unlike the Raptors for years to come or this article.
I’m a Raptors fan and this seems way off base. Of course he’ll average fewer points shots and free throws, he’s playing with Wade and Bron (who are also not scoring as much as last year you fool). Bosh has done little to deserve our chirps, he left a perennially mediocre team to go win titles, get off his ass.
I’m not a Chris Bosh fan, but I just hate it when the media takes something like “bemoaning the lack of good cable TV in the Great White North?” (something that was probably just a joke), to totally discredit someone. Buddy… can you stop contributing to the vomit that the media regurgitates over and over again to try and make us hate star athletes? Shame on you.
Your team just suck.
Losing more than 60% of the games.
They might as well give up at this rate their losing
Bosh is good player. Don’t underestimate him.
I swear some people just dun have a life! just let him play basketball why dun u? seriously stop trying to discredit or taunt him for his decision! d wade lebron n bosh all knew that their stats were gonna plummet, but individual glory is not what they seek, what they seek is multiple championships, records, rings and actual WINS unlike that pathetic raptors team, n I’m not insulting the raptors in any way, its just that trying to make your team sound like the good guy while making another player look like the villain is just plain wrong!! you’ve seen what happened to the cavs cuz of there ego! the same will happen to u guys if u dun shut the hell up n respect other BETTER players!
I LOVE this article! Wouldn’t you just love it if when the coaches selections are made, that Bargs got in the all-star game instead of Bosh? That would be awesome! Now, if Spolstra gets to coach the East and makes his picks, I would expect he’ll put Bosh on the team, but if another coach (SVG or Doc Rivers) then you might just see it happen, but it would be a real treat and a real shot to Bosh’s ego if Bargs made the team over Bosh. Bargs is actually not far off Bosh’s rebounds this year and bargs is scoring more points, so I personally think if it came down to those 2 guys, Bargs deserves to be there over Bosh. Fingers crossed.
I think Bosh has deserved this kind of negative media attention.
He thinks extremely highly of himself and has expressed it in plentiful ways.I was most definitely a Bosh fan and supported him switching teams UNTIL he started trash talking Toronto. And it was not just one comment about how there was a lack of cable channels…he opened his mouth multiple times putting down a city that had supported him for years and they even built an entire team around him and his wishes. Not so classy.
my question to all of these canadian journalists, toronto ones in particular, if the raptors fans dont care that bosh left WHY DO YOU? people have careers, and sometimes things dont work out in one place so they move to a better opportunity for themselves…people do it all the time and alot of the times its mutual. PLEASE stop all this bosh hate. Im not a bosh fan in particular but its just getting pathetic now. when a player ISNT willing to put his ego aside and take a back seat youre all over him…but now that someone is, and is actually doing very well, youre all over him. BTW, 18 and 9 with wade and lbj on a team are excellent #’s, hes one of the most efficient players at his position in the nba.
I would talk shite about Toronto too if I played there. Everyone there is miserable. What a stink town.
Title correction: Toronto All-Star to Miami CHAMPION.
Ego would be to have stayed in Toronto to “be the man” and lose. Humility is going to where he is not “the man” in order to achieve something special, which he has done.
In the winning game five last night, Bosh had the highest +/- of any player on the floor for either team. With guys like LeBron, Wade, Durant and Westbrook out there as well, that speaks to what kind of player Bosh is and the significance of his contribution to their winning a championship.
Both James and Wade waited for Bosh’s decision before making theirs – they knew how important he’d be to their chances.
Bosh saw the potential, left money on the table, took the criticism, sacrificed being “the man” to play a role and do what they asked of him – he paid the dues, and now he’s a champion.
