Brian Burke fuming over poll naming Ron Wilson a lousy coach
Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke may take a lot of flack for the lacklustre state of the Leafs, but whether you see him as the messiah or the devil incarnate you can’t deny the guy this: he’s one fiercely loyal fellow. Ever since bench boss Ron Wilson was named “head coach NHL players would least like to play for” in a NHL Players’ Association poll, Burke has been on the rampage. The latest: he’s spreading rumours that he’s going to conduct his own poll with fellow GMs at their annual Florida meeting in March. Categories are said to include: laziest player, most overpaid player, player most likely to be the subject of a 3 a.m. call from local authorities, etc.
What if Burke just focused on getting a half-decent team on the ice? He’s coming off as weak, talking back rather than proving anyone wrong.
