Toronto united in disapproval of Union Station name change

Though Toronto residents don’t agree on much these days, the city is united in the belief that Union Station definitely should not be renamed after Sir John A. Macdonald. The Star reported that according to a Forum Research Poll, 66% per cent of residents oppose the potential name change, with only 16 per cent in favour. (These results are amply borne out on the string of blisteringly negative comments following our Facebook post about this idea.)

Judging by its firm rejection by the public, it’s unlikely that the motion proposed by councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong will go through (plus, branding experts have pointed out it would be a waste of time and money). On the bright side, threatening change to iconic Toronto buildings may just be the most effective way to bring the divided city together.
