This is not a joke: Carolyn Parrish slams Hazel McCallion for being “ungrateful, ungracious and downright rude”
When the premier and prime minister came to the GTA to announce new infrastructure spending, they made the mistake of inviting Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion to the event, where she bluntly, if accurately, called the money being announced that day “a drop in the bucket” relative to what Canada’s cities need. Upon hearing this, Mississauga city councillor (and long-time McCallion rival) Carolyn Parrish apparently went into letter-writing mode, penning a scorching memo that slammed Mayor McCallion for being “ungrateful, ungracious and downright rude.”
We can only hope that more politicians take note and follow the Carolyn Parrish guidebook for speaking in public with grace and dignity, cribbed from her time as a Liberal MP:
• Refer to Canada’s neighbours to the south as “Damn Americans, I hate the bastards.”
• Call Canadian supporters of missile defense “a coalition of the idiots.”
• React to the 2004 U.S. election results with “America is completely out of touch with the rest of the free world.”
• Assure the PM that he’s got your vote in the only way possible: exclaim “There’s no frigging way I’m going to let one ovary bring the government down.”
For her part, the notably indestructible McCallion dismissed Parrish: “I just take it from where it comes, from whom it comes from,” Ms. McCallion said, according to the Post. “It’s not unusual.”

• McCallion comments ungrateful, nasty, Parrish says [Toronto Star]
As a long time resident of, and business owner in Mississauga I can only marvel at the woderful job that Mayor Hazel has done year in and year out.
She does not deserve the petty recriminations spewing from the mouth of Carolyn Parrish. I am embarassed at Parrish’s antics. However, it was gratifying to see the article in todays Toronto Star showing Hazel with an 88% approval rating and Parrish with 6%.Let us hope that when Hazel finally decides to retire the voters in Mississauga will remember Parrish’s behavior and keep that approval rating at or below the current status.
What IS a joke is the pathetic excuse for Media covering MYTHissauga. People might want to read Tom Urbaniak’s book, “HER WORSHIP Hazel McCallion and the Development of Mississauga” to get some idea of the Machiavellian nature of this political figure. For example, not one of the media in that scrum (by the way, the video embedded here is mine) picked up on a classic McCallion falsehood. McCallion stated:”There’s absolutely nothing confidential. Freedom of Information —you can get anything you want.”
Just two days before McCallion and Company’s Freedom of Information department handed down an ACCESS DENIED (one of dozens) for a graffiti file. Reason? “could be reasonably expected to affect law enforcement investigations or proceedings by divulging evidence.”
Get this. Peel Police handed over their file of the same incident willingly. AND free.
The biggest “joke” in Mississauga? Is when Traditional Media tickle and pretend!
