Rob Ford plagued by drive-by smears again
It’s hard out here for a front-runner: Rob Ford, having swatted down anonymous Web ads two weeks ago that referred to him as “arrested and jailed,” now faces another anonymous attack, this time in the form of lawn signs planted on University Avenue a few blocks south of Queen’s Park. The Toronto Sun reports:
Around 10 signs that read, “Wife-beating, racist drunk for mayor!” were planted in the University Ave. flowerbeds near Dundas St. W. at some point overnight….
It isn’t clear who is responsible for the signs. Erika Mozes, George Smitherman’s campaign spokesman, was adamant that Ford’s main rival had nothing to do with them.
The signs were removed as quickly as the Web ads were—an offended early morning commuter took down the signs and put them into his van.
The incident is the flip side of what Ford once described as the great thing about city politics: the barriers to entry are so low anyone can get in the game. Well, it looks like making signs and sticking them somewhere prominent is cheap enough for Ford’s enemies to get some shots in. Frankly, with almost two weeks left in this race, we probably haven’t seen the last of this kind of trick.

I’d feel sorry for him if the ads and signs weren’t so darned accurate. He’s so devious, I wouldn’t put it past him to have put them up preemptively himself to generate sympathy.

I would rather a guy that tries to be honest, then a guy who knows how to lie (“theres no economic damage due to smoking ban on casinos” while having a report that showed $500 MILLION lost first year at OLG) and loves the McGuinty gov’t policy makers and helped make those policies! We’ve seen what the Liberals have done to Ontario I won’t let that same thinking into Toronto.
Childish? Yeah. Truthful? Hell yeah. We have GOT to stop this racist, homophobic bully from winning, people. I don’t want to live in a city that becomes The Tea Party North, with all the sickening crap that goes along with that title. We will rue the day if this right-wing bully wins…mark my words. No-one on Council will work with this guy…ergo, nothing will get done. His “fiscal restraint” theme song has no basis in reality. Slash this…cut that…but don’t worry…no City services or programs will suffer!!! WTF????? ANYONE BUT FORD at this point…it’s a terrible way to have to vote and leaves a bad taste in my mouth, too, but not the rancid bile I’ll be tasting if Ford wins.

The signs were offensive but so too is the truth printed on those signs…which came first the truth or the signs pointing it out…Funny everyone is piss off about the signs but don’t seem to care about the offenses they detail.

I looked at Rob Ford’s voting record and his 10-yrs of SERVICE as Ward 2 Councillor and I looked at the other candidates. NO COMPARISON WHO HAS BEEN FIGHTING AGAINST THE CORRUPTION in our city hall–ROB FORD wins based on his effort and record!!! He has done some stupid things in his life, but compared to George S. that is nothing! As for all those who fear him so much … look at the numbers, since Miller took over 7 yrs. ago our city budget has gone up 50% from $6.2B to $9.2B. Our city spends about $3,700 per resident vs. $2,600 in Montreal and the national avg. is $2,200. Where HAS ALL THIS MONEY GONE? Why do the taxes and spending can only go up? Ford will have many on the NEW city Council that will work with him, we want a city that works and the key services are provided first and foremost. STOP THE HATE…against a man that truly cares about YOUR money and the city.
The slogan should be anyone but Smitherman. He’s so smug and phony and not trustworthy. Freeze property taxes for a year??? and then how much will he increase them the next year to make up for the lost revenue?? give me a break, how can anyone trust someone who has no respect for people’s hard earned money ie. the health scandal and the billions wasted because of his “leadership”. He’ll just continue on the path of destruction that Miller has paved so well economically speaking and as Smitherman for mayor guaranteed that this city will never recover from its huge debt. GO FORD!

another term of that street car buying stupidity along with the blocking off of downtown streets for events which

Rob Ford is the one that can do something about the waste in city hall.The ones that are running scared are the ones who are probably adding the negative comments in here afraid of losing their fat cat salaries,and rampant wasteful spending, and why not.They are the ones with the most to lose….and as far as the smear crap thats been appearing,if it were so important ,those issues should have been introduced via the idiot thats been putting them up a lot sooner,why in the winding down of this campaign.Talk about bad taste in your mouth…….
Now that the election is over,I wonder if those who said they were going to leave Toronto really will leave,or will they hedge on their statements and stick around.Too bad they don’t leave and take the star and globe and mail with them.
