Mike Del Grande expresses wariness about movies, non-English literature

Budget Chief Mike Del Grande isn’t so sure that city libraries should be spending money on frills such as Hollywood movies. “Is that our core program, or is that program creep?” Del Grande asks in the National Post. He apparently also believes that, while our diversity is our strength and blah blah blah, maybe we should reconsider the amount we spend on non-English material. As for libraries forking over a large portion of their budgets to DVDs, Del Grande asked, “Should the city library become a Blockbuster?” To this we can only say that somebody better become a Blockbuster—and quick—because even Blockbuster is no longer Blockbuster.
