Helena of Tory is no more: Guergis is out of the Conservative caucus as “serious allegations” emerge

Did Helena Guergis decide to jump ship amid the scandals enveloping her and her former MP hubby Rahim Jaffer? Or was she pushed out by the PMO?

During a rare Ottawa press availability today, Prime Minister Stephen Harper wouldn’t say. According to the Ceeb, he did drop one bombshell: Guergis is not just losing her seat at the Cabinet table—she’s been kicked out of the Tory caucus entirely. She will continue to represent the good people of Simcoe-Grey, but as an independent MP.All this for an outburst in an airport and her husband’s night on the town with a few “busty hookers” (which Maclean’s reports was the top trending topic on Twitter yesterday)? Well, not quite. Apparently, new “serious allegations” about her misconduct emerged last night; Harper has referred them to the RCMP and the Ethics Commissioner. What Guergis is alleged to have done is currently unknown. It’s a safe bet that it’s more than simply trying to claim a jogging outfit as a campaign expense.

Now that all this has broken (the story, not the Tories—at least not yet), there’s nothing left to do but sit back, wait for the details and update our dream cast for the as-yet-nonexistent TV movie rendition of this whole fiasco.
