Giorgio Mammoliti resurrects one of Rob Ford’s campaign promises: cutting city council in half
Apparently, looking to waste a little bit more of everyone’s time, Giorgio Mammoliti says he’ll soon move to reduce the number of city councillors from 44 to 22. In other words, he plans to ask his colleagues to lay themselves off. If the idea sounds familiar, that’s because it is: a scrappy Etobicoke upstart councillor by the name of Rob Ford once proposed—no, insisted—that the city slice council in two (that campaign promise vanished, along with others). And, really, the idea of changing council’s shape isn’t necessarily a crazy one. It’s just that the guy who’s advocating for it kind of is. Read the entire story [Toronto Sun] »

all it would take is for those people who really believe in it is for them to trade their job for their belief….
Ok Giorgio, formerly known as George. You’ve been around for a while, we’ve tolerated you, you made some good money, you’re comfortable. But now it’s time to just, you know…go away.

As long as we gerrymander the districts so that right-wing zealots are elected to punish the citizens for spending too much of my tax money, I am ok with this plan.
@Joe
“punish public workers for spending too much of my tax money” I fixed it for you.
A, I think you missed my point. Yes, those $50,000 a year bureaucrats are sucking at the public teat, but far worse are the citizens who expect things like libraries, schools, healthcare, galleries, museums, parks, beaches, fire services, city planning, etc. All could be provided by the private sector at minimal cost, provided we can ban unions, and perhaps ban all pro-union news reporting (I’m looking at you, Toronto Star!!!).
My recent trip to China was eye-opening. The workers there toil for meal money, yet they work like dogs! Many of them retire due to poor health by the time they’re in their late twenties simply because they gave their best years to their employer. We can only DREAM of such loyalty in Canada!!!
Once we start seeing an increase in burnout and suicides among Canadian employees, we’ll know we’re on the right track.
