Four things we know about Rob Ford’s rehab facility
Rob Ford says talking to the Sun’s Joe Warmington on Tuesday got him “into major shit” at rehab. And we know this because on Wednesday he spoke to Warmington again.
The Ford family is still refusing to reveal exactly where the mayor is spending his leave of absence (yesterday, Doug Ford said only that it’s “nowhere close to the GTA”). Here, based on Warmington’s two interviews, is what we know about the treatment facility so far.
1. It appears to have some kind of three-strikes rule about speaking to the media. “There’s just a policy you’re not allowed to speak to the media in these programs,” Ford told Warmington. “I didn’t know about that. They weren’t too happy.” After the first of the two Warmington interviews, experts told the CBC that it’s very unusual for a rehab centre to allow a patient to make work calls while in treatment.
2. Ford is, he says, “working out like an animal man.” The Sun didn’t include a comma in that quote, so we assume the mayor’s workout regimen is werewolf-themed. Release the beast.
3. The place is “amazing.”
4. It’s a real bargain. “It’s worth every dime, every dime,” Ford told Warmington. “A hundred grand is cheap. It’s a steal.”
So, this narrows it down a little for all the reporters searching for the mayor. Just find an affordable, awesome rehab facility nowhere near the GTA, where everyone gives phone interviews between bouts of animalistic exercise. And there he’ll be.
Take the facilities advice no talking to media. Stay another 3 months . Then maybe the “media” will forget about you and I will not have to read about your problems.
I’m guessing Greenstone in Muskoka. 22k a month (may depend on treatment) and no wait-time to get in.
“There’s just a policy you’re not allowed to speak to the media in these programs,” Ford told Warmington. Well, I’m thinking most people in rehab have no reason to speak to the media. Nor is the media interested in speaking to them. How many mayors are in that place anyway?
At his cottage, going to AA meetings? That might be the ‘program’ Doug F. speaks about, or as an out-patient somewhere near his cottage. There are a few of these places around north of the GTA. Perhaps the cost is $100K if he is an ‘in-patient’. Perhaps the question should be; ‘Are you receiving “treatment” or; Are you participating in a program as an ‘out’ or ‘in’ patient? Can anyone go to your ‘meetings’? He would get one-on-one attention/ treatment at AA. He would have a sponsor but would still be free to come and go. If so, who is paying his wage? If this were a private individual, then weekly reports would have to be submitted to HR to continue to receive a pay cheque. If no reports, then notice of termination is discussed.
Definitely a man of the people…. people who can afford $100,000.00 rehab without blinking an eye.
The guy is a lying sack of shit, as is his brother.
Why would anyone take anything those two morons say at face value?
If their past performance is any indicator, you’re safer assuming that whatever is the 180 degree opposite of what they say is the truth.
For God’s sake, with all the money you have, find a good cosmetry dentist!
$100,000 is a small price to pay to cure the best mayor in the history of Western Civilization of his little itty-bitty drinking problem. The police spent much more than that on expensive investigations into his organized crime connections.
Cosmetic dentist
Noted, thanks :)
It’s all the crack!
get off his ass… let him be, it isn’t anyone’s business where he is now.. you all wanted him to step down now he does you still don’t leave him alone.. Is there not a plane missing and a bunch of women missing in Nigeria.. Those are serious matters not Rob Ford
All that crack has done brain damage. If he was really in rehab, he’d need to be undergoing medical detox to keep from having seizures and other medical issues. Withdrawing from drugs and alcohol is brutal and dangerous if not done under the supervision of a doctor/hospital. Everyone knows he’s lying and even worse, he’s doing an extremely sad disservice to anyone who has gone through real rehab and/or struggled with addiction issues. This guy is a disgusting narcissist and this is not going to end well.
He needs a hard core and humbling rehab, like Impact, where he cleans a few toilets.
I’ve been in rehab and it was paid for by HR. A lot of high performers get into trouble. We make money for companies. Big money, big patents. Often times it is their fault. Ford is in a huge media crunge. He has to make sure he can survive.
All of his enablers are lying. He is NOT in rehab and most people don’t buy his story.
I will enjoy watching his poll numbers tumble to the point that Stintz has more support.
Does anyone really think that he is at a rehab facility – I can promise you if he was he would not be hiding it
If he were in any other job he would be fired – imagine… Your kid comes home and says hey mom dad guess what my teacher…he smokes crack and has a drinking problem ..and we think he’s a racist too – I don’t think folks would look the other way…but let him lead a city
All 12 step programs require that you do work. Cleaning toilets is one of the jobs. It is not humbling – it is encouraging – they keep you busy all the time. Eric Clapton, et al, a lot of people who are famous, like Ford, did the jobs, and came back strong. Good luck Ford. Everyone everywhere hopes you do good.
Imagine if Rob Ford was in the private sector?
He would have been let go a long long time ago.
Cleaning toilets has nothing to do with the 12 steps. It’s a rehab model based on establishing humility in the addict/alcoholic. Yes, work is required to get through the 12 steps as it is a program of action, but the two things have nothing to do with one another. There is nothing encouraging about cleaning a toilet, nor is it meant to keep you busy. Not sure where you get your info., but it’s incorrect. I sincerely wish him well, but based on his actions and attitude, I suggest that he can use some humility before he stands a chance at getting sober.
Rumor has it that Rob Ford is at one of John Haines Rehab Centre’s. For the Taxpayers sake, I HOPE NOT!!!

Rob Ford is at rehab in the US. The doctor that reported to the CBC that Ford was in rehab mentioned that he spent 4 days in a hospital to detox. That does not happen in Canada. In Canada you can spend at most a day and a half in detox at a hospital before you are kicked out. It’s free but they get rid of you in a hurry for cost reasons.
Whether or not Ford is actually in rehab really doesn’t matter that much. He obviously does not believe in work, or communicating or in any sort of truth-telling. He clearly is unfit for his position.
Thats quite an assumption there and I see a few problems. First you seem to feel that it’s more likely that customs would be flexible and accomodate Rob than a Canadian hospital with actual liability concerns regarding his well being. Second you seem to be applying some sort of personal knowledge of detox stays in hospital to Rob Ford, do you actually think that a regular person likely with few resources and little support would be treated the same as Rob. You mentioned cost but seem to have missed the fact that the Ford family is loaded (with $$ as well as drugs and bs) lol private jet, lawers on retainer, multiple properties in multiple countries, luxury SUVs, instant access to media etc etc. For the hospital a mistake with Rob would be much more expensive than the same mistake with any regular person and you think they wouldn’t adjust the level of care to reflect this.
Happy to leave the man alone, very happy. Unfortunately he has not stepped down as you say, he is still Mayor and even has his name on the ballot for the next election. He continues make the choice to stay in the public media and in public office collecting a salary for a very high profile public job. As soon as he steps down then he is not an issue for the people of GTA up to that point he should be accountable for his actions as much as any other politician.
More like he paid $100K to buy a fake rehab certificate.
I have been in rehab and it was paid for expensively by my company because I am considered a “high performer” – I make things happen. This is extremely common. In Ontario, you can detox at a hospital – actually depending on the hospital for less than 2 days at most – they are cost sensitive – and move people quickly in Canada. It can take up to 3 to 4 days to physically get off alcohol – withdrawal is not at all like drugs – it is physically addictive like cigs. Then you have to mentally get off of it. Alcohol is an enabler for drugs. You drink alcohol and you lose your inhibitions and will hit crack for that push to an extreme high. BTW, it looks like Ford is in Muskoka according to the latest news. In Canada the 12 step US AA doesn’t always work. I think Ford made a good decision – good luck to him!
You mean “rehab” …
