Doug Ford wants to fund the Sheppard subway extension with casino dollars and lottery money
With the fate of public transit on Sheppard Avenue soon to be decided, noted idea man Doug Ford thinks it’s time his colleagues start to think outside the box when it comes to financing brother Rob Ford’s cherished subway extension. For him, that means the possibility of building a downtown casino or creating a lottery. But before you start counting how many lotto tickets it would take to buy a subway—like this guy—we should point out that the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has already said the idea isn’t feasible. But we still think Doug is onto something with this whole thinking-outside-the-box thing. We wonder if he’s heard of that newfangled “light-rail” technology. It’s pretty novel stuff. makes sense, the poor and working classes use TTC the most and spend the most on gaming/lotteries so it’s just making the users pay for it.

typical neo-con (shortens conveniently to non) thinking by our embarrassing municipal electees
Great idea. We must not bow down to the surface-transport special interest groups. All transit must be underground, or it will be a War On Cars.
I hope that some of this money is used to finally bury the above-ground portions of the Spadina/University, Yonge, and Bloor lines. There is no reason drivers on the parkway should have to see subway riders cruising at streetlevel near Yorkdale Mall, or Davisville, etc. All of that should be underground before we even begin to look at expanding subways into the suburbs.
Perhaps the double-bodied Ford mayor thing should take another look at Mammoliti’s red light district on Toronto Island to fund their ideas. Yes, that’s the ticket!
