David Miller panned mysterious shadow mayor at TEDxToronto last week

Former mayor David Miller took some well-aimed jabs at his successor during his TEDxToronto talk on Friday, while tactfully refraining from mentioning that same successor’s name. Miller said he hears a lot of dissatisfaction from Torontonians who lament, “I miss having a progressive mayor in office,” and “We don’t want a giant Ferris wheel… We don’t want library cuts.” He also called the term “taxpayer” (a favourite of the unnamed mayor) derogatory, believing residents of Toronto should insist on “citizen” or “resident”—of course, he also blamed those citizens for the fall of Transit City, saying we “took it all for granted collectively.” Miller is well within his rights to criticize the mayor (we certainly do) but, hey, when we take cheap shots at Rob Ford, at least we acknowledge the guy.
