Generous (and apparently oblivious) Doug Ford offers his own money to save a school nutrition program

After a particularly touching deputation on a public school nutrition program at city hall yesterday, Doug Ford surprised the crowd in the clamshell by offering to pay out of his own pocket to keep the program afloat at a school in his north Etobicoke ward. He even cut a $1,000 cheque on the spot. Still, outspoken rookie councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam wasn’t impressed: “Would he be able to pay for the HIV/AIDS program cuts? Where does that fit into his social value priorities?” And, really, she has a point. We salute Dougie’s decency—but he does come off as more than slightly oblivious to what’s actually at stake.
