Mayor Ford’s niece plans to try out for Lingerie Football League, cements Ford clan’s gridiron cred
There’s no doubting that the Ford family loves their football: Mayor Rob has his coaching duties and councillor Doug has his designs on an NFL stadium (complete with monorail). Now Doug’s daughter Krista wants in on the action. The Toronto Star is reporting that the 19-year-old “blonde, built linebacker,” whose Twitter profile proclaims “I don’t want to be Barbie, I want to bench-press her,” will be trying out for the Lingerie Football League.
The league, a successful franchise that originated during Super Bowl halftime shows wherein ladies tackle each other in their skivvies, plans to launch four Canadian teams, including the Toronto Triumph (Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Hamilton and other cities are also in the running). Krista isn’t worried about being the subject of too much male attention, as she explained to the Star:
“I play beach volleyball in a bikini and kick a soccer ball in a bikini — that (it would be a problem) never crossed my mind,” said Krista, an MVP two years running on Richview Collegiate’s flag football team who trained with guys “because I was way stronger than the girls.
“If I decide to do something, I put my mind to it and I get it done. No question.”
Mayor Ford sent out a tweet this morning wishing his niece luck in her tryouts for the league. Although the league doesn’t pay, the Star notes that it “helps the players get other opportunities. Ten LFL players were featured in February’s Playboy.” We wish Krista the best of luck with this lofty goal—not only because we’re a little bit scared of her bench-pressing prowess, but because we can’t wait to root for teams with names like the Los Angeles Temptation and the San Diego Seduction.
