In this edition of The Weekender, the zoo’s red pandas hit the spotlight, folk singer Basia Bulat performs, and three more things to do in Toronto this weekend.

CUTE ANIMALS

Red Panda Day Animal lovers flocked to the zoo this summer to see Er Shun and Da Mao, two giant pandas with big appetites. Now it’s the red pandas’ turn to get some love. On Sunday, the zoo is holding meet-the-keeper talks, feeding sessions and a panda-themed silent auction benefitting conservation efforts. Oct. 13. $18–$28. Toronto Zoo, 361A Old Finch Ave., torontozoo.com

CONCERT

Basia Bulat The Etobicoke-born folk singer shows off her autoharp skills with a trio of performances this week at the Polish Combatants Hall. Her new album, Tall Tall Shadow, was co-produced by Arcade Fire guitarist Tim Kingsbury. Oct. 10–12. $20. Polish Combatants Hall, 206 Beverley St., collectiveconcerts.com

MYSTERY

Murder at the ROM In this adventure at the Royal Ontario Museum, teams of two to six people try to solve the murder of a curator who, in Da Vinci Code fashion, left a cryptic code in his appointment book. Oct. 14. $30 (includes museum admission). Royal Ontario Museum, 100 Queen’s Park, urbancapers.com

THEATRE

Night of the Living Dead Live Following a successful run last spring, the interactive stage production is once again paying homage to the sixties flick that put zombie thrillers on the map. Pat Mastroianni of Degrassi fame will have a cameo in Friday’s show. Until Oct. 27. $40–$45. Theatre Passe Muraille, 16 Ryerson Ave., artsboxoffice.ca

FAMILY

Pumpkinland at Whittamore’s Farm It’s that time of the year when families go gaga for farm visits. At Markham’s Whittamore’s Farm, kids can get lost in a corn maze, climb a giant spider web, take a wagon ride, watch a pumpkin canon show and meet barnyard animals—all while enjoying a candied apple. Until Oct. 31. $7–$40. Whittamore’s Farm, 8100 Steeles Ave. E., whittamoresfarm.com
