THE SCENE: Holt Renfrew launches Holt’s Muse with the Man Repeller Leandra Medine
Tuesday night at Holt Renfrew, fashion fans flocked to the third floor, where the Man Repeller Leandra Medine hosted a party to launch Holt’s new blog Holt’s Muse. Medine is known for her NYC-based blog, where she showcases the best women’s fashion men love to hate, like harem pants and figure-hiding blouses. The society mavens we’re used to seeing at these things were no-shows (they have people to read blogs to them, we guess) save for Alexandra Weston, who in addition to the famous last name has a new gig at Holt’s. The crowd wasn’t without famous faces though: we spotted designers like Jeremy Laing, Kirk Pickersgill of Greta Constantine, Jake Rosenberg (who had a swarm of ladies crowding him most of the night—it pays to be a straight guy in fashion), Stephanie Mark and Erin Kleinberg of The Coveteur, Uncle Otis’s Martin James and stylist Corey Ng. Check out the scene after the jump.
Though the Twittersphere went crazy with “What will I wear to repel men?” queries, the fashion was pretty safe, like pretty heels, tights and dresses—nothing we wouldn’t see at any chi-chi cocktail party. Even the Repeller herself played it cool, wearing a cropped grey crewneck sweatshirt, a black sequined mini and tights. The most out-there looks we saw were fur vests and jackets and Holt’s coordinator of fashion direction McKenzie Yeates wearing lace bunny ears (a nouveau Playboy look of sorts, we guess). The biggest hit of the night seemed to be the Photostar photo area, where the PYTs worked their best Top Model poses, perhaps aided by the night’s signature drink, a tequila and sage cocktail that Medine whipped up because “she wanted something spicy.” The drinks must have been good, because we spotted Laing double-fisting the mason jars, even though he promised ad nauseum he was “bringing one to a friend.”
