Fashion Television is out, Style Bio is in?
Last week the Internet was shaken by the news that Fashion Television had ceased production after 27 years, and now Bell Media has announced that it will be picking up 60 episodes of a show called Style Bio that will air on its E! network. Seems a touch sudden, but Scott Henderson, vice-president of communications for Bell, says the show has “been in development for E! for some time, and is not directly related to the suspension of production of Fashion Television.” The show, a documentary series about how stars (like Beyonce, Kim Cattrall and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen) have gone, in Ricki Lake terms, from drab to fab, seems to bear no close resemblance to Jeanne Beker’s FT, but we figure Bell’s move to invest in a program with a panel of experts over Beker’s one-on-one interviews has got to sting a little.
So sad that an informative tv magazine with a distinctive Canadian POV is replaced by yet another US celeb-stroking fluff piece. Jeanne rocked it, getting inside the fashion biz without fawning all over the celebs; she just had great conversations with style icons and designers without all the puffery and “sucking up”. RIP Fashion Television and thanks for all the amazing legit content. Shame on you, Bell Media, for all your US programming. How do you see Canada – as the 51st state or just another TV station for dumping US garbage?
I totally agree with Glenda. What a pity :(
I agree with Glenda Jeanne Becker rocked FT and if Bell, a Canadian Company would rather be a clone to the USA way of TV journalisim shame on them!I find it hard to believe that we don’t support our own, trust in what they do and would rather be a puppet to these so called companies .I makes me so sad and mad that it comes down to this. Jeanne Becker you are the classier one in this game .
No Glenda, YOU rock it! You could not have said it better.
