Sunday’s MuchMusic Video Awards saw a host of celebrities decked out in Canadian designs; clothing by Toronto-based designers was worn by the likes of Katy Perry, Dragonette’s Martina Sorbara, Nelly Furtado and Keshia Chanté. Perry arrived on the red carpet in a floor-length leather and lace gown from Vawk’s Resort collection, while Sobara donned Calla and Pink Cobra by Tania Martins, and both Furtado and Chanté sported dresses by Lucian Matis.
Spicing up some fairly typical sartorial selections were the somewhat kooky clothing choices of Canadians Shenae Grimes, 90210 star and former Degrassi notable, and singer Kreesha Turner. Grimes wore a custom, barely-there Amanda Lew Kee gown with slits exposing both legs from foot to hip, putting Angie’s much-buzzed-about Oscar dress to shame. Turner graced the red carpet in a custom-made ensemble from Northbound Leather, flanked by an entourage of burly, shirtless men outfitted in black hoods, camo kilts and Doc Martens, that earned her the designation of “most high drama look” by Flare magazine. While wearing Canadian certainly made for one of the bigger red-carpet trends, children as accessories was another, seen on Justin Bieber and Perry. Of course.
