Pink Tartan, designed by Kimberley Newport-Mimran.
As one half of Toronto’s reigning power-couple, Newport-Mimran’s shows always attract a fairly star-studded crowd. Cancon supermodel Stacey McKenzie arrived in a red mini dress with “heavy metal” written all over it—literally. (We always thought of her as more of a classic-rock kind of girl.) Newport-Mimran’s husband Joe Mimran (of Joe Fresh fame) kept cozy in a puffy orange jacket. We also spotted Recipe to Riches judge Arlene Dickenson, as well as New York socialite Mad Marj, who later DJ’ed the Joe Fresh/Pink Tartan after party at
Lee.
For Fall 2014, Newport-Mimran experimented with fabrics while staying true to the Pink Tartan aesthetic: A-line skirts and flouncy party dresses. The classic silhouette showed up in bright silvery frocks, gold embellished pieces and even furry skirts. Pairs of tiny felt short-shorts departed from the usual knee-grazing hemlines (we doubt anyone will wear them for a coffee run, but maybe clubbing on King West). They were outnumbered by more demure looks, including a over-sized quilted jacket that resembled a fur-lined blanket.
We loved the white furry hood on this cropped black blazer, which transformed the model into a modern-day Khaleesi, and also this fur-collared buffalo-plaid jacket. Another favourite was this shimmery skirt, which shone black or silver, depending on the light.
