Colder weather means layers and lots of them. Happily, Montreal knitwear company Ca Va De Soi (French for “it goes without saying”) recently opened its first Toronto store. The family-owned company, which operated for decades as a wholesaler before opening a handful of boutiques in Quebec and Ottawa, prides itself on minimalistic staples made from extra-fine wools, rare Egyptian cottons and luxe cashmeres. Styles in the Yorkville shop include Nordic woolly sweaters without the bulk or itch-factor ($280), Egyptian cotton T-shirts ($50–$120), tweed pencil skirts in Geelong wool ($195) and basic Merino wool pullovers ($180). Our picks: both the ribbed winter leggings ($195) and cashmere shawls ($350) are well worth the investment.
