Address: 68 Jackman Avenue
Neighbourhood: North Riverdale Agent: Christopher Gillett and Lynn Carol MacKenzie, Re/Max Hallmark Realty Ltd., Brokerage

The Property: This spacious and extensively restored home is chock full of modern upgrades, all of them designed to coexist with the structure’s original Playter Estates character.

The History: Over the course of 15 years, the sellers painstakingly restored the 101-year-old home’s antique charm. Original details—including certain trims, cabinets and bathroom fixtures—were either refurbished or reproduced by hand. Even contemporary features, like the kitchen’s Brazilian cherry floors, have a way of blending in.

The Fate: The sellers were elated to see their multi-year pet project go to purchasers who share their passion for the home’s old-school appearance.

The Sale: The five-bedroom design appealed to many large, young families, but the high asking price narrowed the field down to all save the well-heeled. The agents hoped to charm suitors by holding open houses during Jackman Elementary’s annual fair across the street, calling attention to the home’s prime school district. (Cotton candy was permitted on the premises during showings, of course.) It worked. The property attracted just one offer, but it was the right offer. It sold after two days.

By the Numbers:

• $1,850,000 • 100 per cent of list price • 101 years old • 15-year-long restoration • 5 bedrooms • 5 bathrooms • 2 fireplaces • 2 days on the market • 1-car detached garage • 1 offer
