Grey Goose Soho House had some stiff party competition on Saturday night, but the busy venue’s last event of the evening, a fête for Chris Rock’s film Top Five (which he wrote, directed and starred in) managed to rack up some serious star wattage all the same. Co-stars Rosario Dawson, J.B. Smoove, Cedric the Entertainer and Rock himself were all there, and every time we turned around, another celebrity had joined the fray. First, documentarian Michael Moore chatted Rock up (Rock is no stranger to documentaries: he co-wrote and appeared in the 2009 film Good Hair). SNL’s Jay Pharoah was probably the most gregarious of the bunch: he went to the bar to get his own drinks, did shots and bopped along to Notorious B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize” (admittedly, it’s basically impossible not to at least nod your head to that song). Soon, Jon Stewart was in the mix, making a beeline for Rock and his sizeable throng of friends. Then, Ben Stiller, who had already been at the the venue earlier in the night for Noah Baumbach’s While We’re Young, returned to give his regards. Finally, Baumbach’s girlfriend, the actress Greta Gerwig, who had also been at the While We’re Young party, returned. Seems like real life is quite the opposite of the title of Rock’s former sitcom.
Meanwhile, also going on at the house that night (it hosted five separate film parties): supermodel Cara Delevigne did shots, then joined her The Face of an Angel co-star Kate Beckinsale on the second floor of the house for their film’s after-party. And the party for While We’re Young hopped along, too. In addition to Baumbach, Stiller and all the rest, Amanda Seyfried, Adam Driver, Madeline Stowe and director Paul Haggis all made appearances.
