The absence of key cast members meant a stylish but low-key gala for Hateship Loveship, an adaptation of a short story by Canadian literary queen Alice Munro. Nick Nolte, Hailee Steinfeld and Guy Pearce were all no-shows on the red carpet, which put the spotlight on a shorts-clad Kristen Wiig and breakout star Sami Gayle, who donned a Mia Farrow crop and retro-chic red belted mini. Wiig teetered down the carpet in sky-high T-strap heels, mugged for the cameras with director Liza Johnson and even paused between interviews to blow out the candles on a belated 40th birthday cupcake.
