More details about the arrival of Victoria’s Secret are coming out. We can confirm that the company’s first Toronto store is scheduled to open at Yorkdale mall this August and that another outpost of its sister store, Pink, will be opening there in the spring. On-line buzz says that the exact dates are May 13 for Pink and August 20 for Victoria’s Secret.

It is interesting to note that in 2006, when Limited Brands, the Ohio-based parent company of Victoria’s Secret, planned to buy Canadian lingerie company La Senza, there were no plans to bring Vicky’s bras north of the border. Says an old CBC article:

La Senza will continue to operate independently, and there also aren’t any immediate plans for Victoria’s Secret to open its own stores in Canada, Laurence Lewin, president and chief operating officer of the Montreal-based company, said Thursday…. “The short answer is there’s no particular plan for Victoria’s Secret coming to Canada.”

Lewin (who was also on the first season of Dragons’ Den) passed away in 2008, and Victoria’s Secret beauty products have been trickling into La Senza shops since Limited Brands took over the stores in 2007. Last winter, Square One in Mississauga welcomed one of the first Pink stores, and it was announced last week that four Victoria’s Secrets would be opening in Canada.

Women across the country are already donning their angel wings and going giddy over the arrival of Victoria’s Secret. Whether Lewin expected (or wanted) this to happen is unclear, but we prefer to see the cup as half full.
