The Find: a ring that once belonged to a real-life circus giant

Circuses are cool. Old-fashioned circuses are even cooler. Coolest of all: this oxidized brass pendant from local fave Biko’s fall 2012 collection. It’s a copy of a ring that originally belonged to Jack Earle, a circus performer for Barnum & Bailey who was seven-and-a-half-feet tall (though, as the ring shows, he claimed he was over eight). When Earle was performing in the 1940s, the circus gift shop sold copies of his ring; Biko founder Corrine Anestopoulous hand-cast the pendant from one of them and strung it on a 32-inch chain. The treasure hunter’s spirit is typical of Anestopoulous’s work—her latest collection also includes pieces inspired by chain mail, vintage Grecian jewellery and African trade beads. $115.
