Yorkville’s glitzy Mink Mile is the most expensive spot in Canada to lease retail space

Yorkville’s Mink Mile is the priciest retail strip in Canada, but it’s only the 34th priciest strip in the world according to Colliers International’s 2012 Global Retail Report. The stretch of shops on Bloor between Avenue Road and Bay Street lease for US$310 per square foot on average, valuing it above Vancouver’s Robson Street ($100) and far below New York’s Fifth Avenue ($2,600). Despite the Mile’s top spot in the nation, its impressive range of luxury retailers (Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Porsche Design and more) and fancy sidewalks, Yorkville doesn’t get automatic dibs on new high-end arrivals. The downtown strip has to fight malls like Yorkdale for new-to-Toronto boutiques like Kate Spade and Ann Taylor. [Toronto Star]
