Toronto’s Best Dressed: Innovators’ Ball, April 30, 10:07 p.m.
Who: Alexandra Weston and Suzanne Cohon, principals of ASC PR and professional socialites
You’re both wearing Greta Constantine. Plan or coincidence?
SC: Not planned. I was deciding between this and an Andy Thê-Anh until the last minute.
AW: I’m always pretty last minute. I was going between two as well. This isn’t supposed to be a maternity dress, but there was lots of room for the belly.
What’s so special about Greta C?
AW: They make you feel gorgeous, even at nine months pregnant.
Any style tips for the baby bump set?
AW: Keep it simple. Oh, and the BellaBand was definitely my best friend.
Your firm handles a lot of local design talent. Is there an international designer you’d love to work with?
AW: I’m happy working with Canadian talent, helping to build their brands.
SC: I love Nina Ricci. Olivier Theyskens is a genius.
Speaking of genius, Suzanne, your dress seems to be defying gravity. How are you avoiding a Janet-Jackson-at-the-Super-Bowl disaster?
SC: I’m being very cautious when I move.
No double-sided tape?
SC: I couldn’t. You could see it through the material.
“Best Dressed”???? You have to be kidding! Trend or not, both of these dresses are unflattering. While also a socialite, at least Kimberly Newport-Mimran looked smashing in her dress in your last profile. Very tasteful.
This pic belongs in the social column, not the Best Dressed… talk about kissing social butt T.O. Life. Perhaps you should re-name this feature to “Socialite Best Dressed”.
Congratulations to Alexandra on her pregnancy, but put on a b.r.a. honey, you’re a grown-up now…. and if you’re already wearing one, put on another one.
I have to agree with Meow Meow… this is a bit of a stretch for a ‘best dressed’. I find both gowns a bit plain and even frumpy. But, everything is relative… I guess it was a slow night in Toronto.
I agree that this should not be entitled Best Dressed if you consider those high end beautiful long dress looks great in them. It does not do justice to their beauty and vice versa.
I think no matter how confortable you are not wearing a bra or that the dress calls for a no bra…if the girls were not attractive to look at and looks like a pathetic try to be confident…YOU ONLY SHOULD TRY IT AT HOME!
Just a thought from a former model myself…
Thanks…
Let’s get some shots of the common folks in the city. We got a whole lot of ‘best dressed’ people out there! These 2 ladies most definitely do not deserve this. They are ‘adequately dressed’ at BEST.
These are great dresses, but that certainly doesn’t qualify these ladies as “best dressed”. How about a stylist? The jewelery on both is all wrong, and how about some attention to hair and makeup on Alexandra? She looks like a college student who threw her hair back so she could make it to class on time.
Love Greta Constantine, not loving how these two are wearing it.
The blue dress is unflattering and the teal dress is … well it’s teal!
I have to agree – those are not nice looking in the least!
They look like sloppy suburban moms who think wearing a maxi dress with flip flops is fashion. Best dressed? FALSE.
What a load of crap…Who gives a shit about trust fund babies while people are losing their jobs….Poor taste Toronto Life, poor taste.
ROFL
The only saving grace for articles of such low caliber is reading all of your comments.
Thank you fellow T-dotonians for reminding me that there are still sane people out there (all of which have obviously been fired from Toronto Life during these hard times).
ummmmm? professional socialites??? what a snore!
I hate to say it, but these teal and blue girls did it better:

(note to self: show up to parties with friend in hue complenting colour)
there is no need to be this bitchy!
have any of you ever been preggers?
and for the trust fund comment sounds to me that some people need to get a grip on there own lives before commenting on other people!
and that is coming from someone who is NOT a trust fund Baby!
get over yourselves!
You can’t buy good taste (see photo).
Whoa. Best Dressed? More like “Best Use of the sitting room curtains”. Greta Constantine has a lot to answer for here.
eww. these dresses are frumpy and gawdy.
if this is our best – it makes toronto look pretty bad
Why are you people so mean? Take it with a grain of salt! Of course they’re socialites. How is this different from any other best-dressed list? I’m a stylist and can say that generally, Toronto is not a well-dressed city and I doubt any of you here are exceptions. Suck it up! And the next time you’re out in a fancy dress at a fancy party just look for the Toronto Life photographer!
Professional Socialites ha ha ha
They probably don’t even realize that’s actually an insult.
Alexandra Weston and Suzanne Cohon?
My, wherever do you find such obscure fashion icons?! Kudos Toronto Life for your “innovative” style finds.
The most innovative choices since the Sliced Bread ball.
Steven, I don’t see where it says “Best Dressed Obscure Fashion Icon”. You people expect way too much. Again I ask, name one, ONE, best-dressed list, anywhere in the world, that features anyone other than celebrities and socialites. ONE!
i was there and i can say that professional socialite Ms Kerr was wearing something at least interesting… why not post that?
The dresses look cheap… it doesn’t matter how much they cost…they looked cheap. That flingy fabric is very 90’s. Navy Blue…great colour. Teal…not so much
EEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! Ditto on the suburbanite maxi dress flip flop fashion sense!!! So awful!
OMG! The dresses are fine! I’ve seen a lot worse on Fashion Television! I think it would be a blast to be a “professional socialite”. Not so much fun being pregnant.
The issue is not the dresses but the obvious pandering to the monied establishment of Toronto Life by awarding the best-dressed award to the people who paid for and hosted the event! Westons contributed $15 million to the Ontario Science Centre to have their little “it” party – why not give the award to the biggest donor.
This goes to show yet AGAIN, especially in this city, money cannot buy elegance, taste and refinement.
Please explain to me why 90% of Toronto has bad taste in fashion.
Alex…how did you go from an unaffected, down to earth Branksome girl to “professional socialite”? Oh dear, I must laugh.
Cohon is the worst of the two: more like White Trash Ball ’09.
Wow, harsh critics on here. T.O. Life, why on earth though would you include “pro socialites” in their description – is the fact that they run a highly successful PR firm not enough of a descriptor for two hard-working women?
I’m not sure what your criteria was for selecting the best dressed for the evening but it would be lovely to see other guests as well. So in that regard I must agree with the comments, albeit not so harshly. An expensive ballgown does not make you best dressed. It’s the entire look from head to toe, and other than a luxury label on the inside seams of these dresses there really isn’t much to these outfits to fully warrant a best dressed title. Perhaps a “great shoppers” title would be more appropriate. Although at nine months pregnant, I’m thrilled to see Ms. Weston looking fresh and comfortable, not an easy feat when at the end of a pregnancy.
Oh GOD … you’re kidding … not even close to best dressed, this is nothing but a socialite glad-hand! I’m not sure what is more hideous, this open pandering or these outfits. Man I see that TO Life still thinks of itself as some kind of society vanguard … well, newsflash, people, it’s the kids out there doing real fashion, not charity donor types at the society parties.
I don’t think the issue is what they’re wearing (it isn’t heinous), but what they were awarded.
Ok-dressed, yes. Best-dressed, not really.
I’ve seen better fashion on my morning commute.
Why would you profile these 2 dull-looking women and the awful dresses they are wearing if you want people to be impressed with Toronto??? I don’t know why you wouldn’t pick out a couple of ladies int he crowd who made an effort to look half-way decent by combing their hair and wearing a little make-up at least. This is such a shame,l b/c whenever I visit Toronto. I see many young, attractive stylish women on the street and using this example doesn’t do your city justice. I mean really, the lady in the teal dress looks like a man and the pregnant woman looks like she jsut rolled off the couch, greasy face and messy hair and cover up those flabby arms and the saggy breasts!! Who goes out in public to a socail event like this in Toronto?? How embarassing. at least make an effort to say you tried.
They’re wearing their clients products?? Here is some advice ladies: Don’t eat what you shit. You look awful. I wouldn’t be caught dead in either dress, especially the teal one which looks nasty with that haircolour. In fact I wouldn’t be caught dead in that haircolour…or the fake tan. Tacky as usual.
