Toronto Fashion Week: Mackage spring 2014

Toronto Fashion Week runs from October 21-26, in a large—and stylishly appointed—tent at David Pecaut Square. We’re posting full galleries from the buzziest runways. Here’s what trendsetters will be wearing in spring 2014.

THE SCENE

At this point, it would be more interesting to note if Stacey McKenzie wasn’t in attendance (she is a fashion week mainstay of the highest order). Last night, the model showed off her photography skills—and her good humour—when a zealous audience member, tired of lackluster second-row shots, asked McKenzie to snap some close-ups during the closing walk.

THE COLLECTION

Outerwear remains Mackage’s strength. This season’s jackets were all about mixing materials: leather trim featured heavily on cotton twill coats, offset by brassy golden hardware and zippers. On-trend biker jackets abounded, but we liked the perfect-for-April trenches best. Dahan and Elfassy also collaborated with PurseBlog’s Megs Mahoney Dusil on a practically-minded series of leather totes, purses and cross-body bags in black, white and deep orange.

BEST PIECES

Quilted men’s pants may have been too tight for some (“I could see everything!” gasped one guest) but we think they’d make great-looking leisure wear. Army green and black jackets referenced the military look without going full camouflage.
