Street Style: 18 looks at the after-work crowd on King West

King Street West’s towering glass condos, inordinate number of boutique marketing shops and chock-a-block bistros can make the strip seem like the epicentre of young urban professional-dom in the city. Naturally, we expected to see a lot of smart designer workwear on a warm weekday evening. And we did. We spotted a polished woman carrying an ostrich leather carryall, a man in a perfectly preppy square-end tie eating a sausage at Wvrst and an oh-so-sharp-looking lawyer on his way to Spin. But we also saw plenty of alternative takes on contemporary post-work style, including an offbeat couple in motto tees mugging for our camera and designer Sid Neigum, who, true to form, looked stylishly severe dressed in black from head to toe. (All-black proved something of a King West theme.) While the fashion may be surprisingly eclectic, most passersby still shared a common purpose—drinks and food on one of the many patios nearby.
