Sophie Grégoire Trudeau’s 12 best looks

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau’s 12 best looks

With a national fan base nearing Kate Middleton levels of adoration and style nods from international publications (some classy, others not-so-much), Sophie Grégoire Trudeau is Canada’s newest fashion icon. Like the Duchess and Michelle Obama, her outfit choices are carefully calibrated to hit that sweet spot between fashionable-yet-relatable and trendy-yet-conservative (the days of bright tube dresses are officially over). Here, a ranking of her best looks to date.

The glitzy gown

1At an International Women’s Day gala at the Shangri-La last weekend, Grégoire Trudeau wore a stylish metallic gold number from Toronto designer Greta Constantine’s fall 2016 collection paired with Cat Janiga earrings. The dress isn’t available for regular people to buy yet, but this Georgia Alice top (with that same floaty off-the-shoulder vibe) is.

The Anna Wintour–approved aesthetic

2Gracing the pages of Vogue’s January issue, Grégoire Trudeau donned a beautifully embroidered Oscar de la Renta gown. This similarly printed dress by the designer is perfect for any springtime festivity (provided you have over $2,000 to spare).

The crisp white coat

3She wore this white Sentaler coat on the way to Trudeau’s swearing-in ceremony on November 4—and sparked a surge in the label’s sales. This particular $1,800-style sold out within days, but thankfully will be available again soon.

The monarch-worthy look

4In London in November, Grégoire Trudeau met the Queen in a glam Zac Posen gown that wouldn’t be out of place on the Oscars’ red carpet. Anyone without royal appointments in their future can channel the look in this sale-priced cocktail version.

The winning wrap dress

5After her husband pulled off a huge victory on election night, Grégoire Trudeau celebrated in a simple and elegant belted grey dress, paired with pretty drop earrings. London label Reiss makes a similar frock.

Laid-back layers

6On October 19, while Trudeau cast his ballot in Montreal, Grégoire Trudeau looked chic, comfortable and totally unfazed by the whole election day thing in cozy, monochromatic layers. Torontonians can mimic the look in this grey cardigan from Yorkville’s Black Goat Cashmere.

The embellished work frock

7Under the crisp white Sentaler coat at Trudeau’s swearing-in ceremony, Grégoire Trudeau wore this bedazzled number from Canadian designer Erdem’s pre-fall 2015 collection (he’s also a favourite of Kate Middleton). Pal Jessica Mulroney, who helped put the whole outfit together, deserves some of the cred.

Parisian chic

8This somber Remembrance Day outfit includes a hat from Ottawa millinery Chapeaux de Madeleine (shoppers can order one by request) and another baby alpaca–fur coat by Sentaler.

The Kate Middleton cocktail dress

9In Malta on November 27 for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, Grégoire Trudeau exuded serious duchess vibes in a pastel pink dress and matching floral fascinator. Torontonians can head to Little Italy’s Lilliput Hats for their own handcrafted creations to sport to afternoon tea, polo matches, or, more realistically, Halloween parties.

The relatable cover

10On the cover of Chatelaine’s March issue, Grégoire Trudeau looked perfectly poised yet down-to-earth in an outfit available at the Eaton Centre. The Babaton blouse is $115 from Aritzia.

The artsy cloak

11The wife of Canada’s PM sported a bold, tulip-adorned shawl to a National Arts Centre panel discussion in January. For a slightly more rugged look, locals can turn to Tuck Shop Trading Co.’s cottage-appropriate cape.

The Canadiana cowboy

12Arriving in London in November, Grégoire Trudeau showed off some patriotic pride in a chic lumberjack-inspired moto jacket from Montreal-based outerwear brand Moose Knuckles.
