Saks Fifth Avenue is continuing its Toronto invasion with another outlet slated to take over Sears‘s plot at the increasingly upmarket Etobicoke mall Sherway Gardens. According to Retail Insider, the American chain will occupy about half of the current Sears space—that’s about 110,000 square feet. In an unexpected (yet delicious) twist, there’s also speculation the Saks will feature a sizeable food hall, similar to its British cousins Marks & Spencer and Selfridges. Like Toronto Eaton Centre, Sherway is also expecting American department store Nordstrom to open within its walls. Now that those plans have been delayed until 2017, it looks like Saks could beat its competitor to the punch and be ready for eager mall-goers as early as spring 2016. Unlike the somewhat hostile reaction to the news that Saks is joining the beloved Bay flagship at Queen and Yonge, we’re sure Sherway shoppers will welcome this obvious upgrade.
