Is blue lipstick and eyeshadow a trend?
We couldn’t help but notice that Toronto has turned a little blue lately (and we don’t mean the Anyone But Ford contingent). First, models at Philip Sparks’s fashion presentation sported icy eyeshadow harking back to the leg warmer and shoulder pad days of the 1980s. (In Saturday’s Globe, Maggie Wrobel touted indigo shades.) And then at Amanda Lew Kee’s show on Friday, models wore baby blue lipstick—a look we also noticed on the designer’s supporters, including Robin Kay.
It’s not a look we’d try unless our Halloween costume was I Just Made Out With a Member of the Blue Man Group. We’ll put it to you, readers. Is blue going to happen?
I sure hope not, it looks ridiculous!!!
It’s amazing on the runways, but it looks absolutely ridiculous otherwise.
I believe the blue lips were worn by supporters as an homage to lew kee’s signature lipstick. Kudos to Amanda for being out there and different as well as the on lookers for joining in on the fun for the evening.
I have a friend that bought this when it first came out, I thought it was ridiculous… however, she looks fantastic with it on. She wears a lot of fluorescents and seems like a flash of the 80’s mixed with rocker…somehow, it works.
Though, on me? No chance.
What’s wrong with adding a bit of color…? If you can pull it off then sure!
Totally wrong shade of blue. A nice, deep blue would look so much better! Ew, this is too white. It just looks wrong. Also, it’s just like wearing a shocking red or pink color–you gotta have the right lips for it. Otherwise, why draw attention to the feature ? ….

this is stupid.
I adore the blue lips. I wear it myself frequently. But, I’m one known for taking makeup risks, and being the “out there” one in my area. I think they are absolutely wonderful. I love blue, orange, purple, black, lilac, violet, and silver lips. <3 My most comonly used ones though are blue, black, and silver.
It's happening. <3
I’m loving the way the icy blue works as a way to brighten neutrals. The fun thing about fashion is it’s constant push to stretch the boundaries of what we’re comfortable with and get people to see things in a different light. I hope the blue lipstick is here to stay!
Yuck! They look like they applied their sunscreen wrong.
I love the look. I’d try both the Philip Sparks and the Amanda Lew Kee take on light blue and throw in some other saturated colours as well. Why not take risks and make life interesting?
I’m thinking a nice dark blue is great – but a smurf blue – too much for most!
