The place: Part outdoor furniture store, part gallery, part event space, there’s a lot going on at this place on a side street steps north of King East. Fiber Living follows what seems to be Toronto’s “it must look like a loft in order to be cool” rule — at Fiber Living, the space mimics what has become standard for “authentic” loft living: white cinder blocks and exposed pipes. The walls are adorned with art for sale from the Moore Gallery on Spadina, and the space can be rented out as a venue, leaving as much or as little of the furniture for seating as you’d like (for example, if you were Terence Koh, the party may require an abundance of space and three pieces of furniture, and Fiber Living is happy to accommodate that).

The stuff: With a good two months left of summer (which we’re hoping isn’t just wishful thinking on our part), everyone wants an outdoor living room. Plush couches and recliners are de rigueur and perfect to replace those ratty sets of plastic lawn chairs littering most backyards. Items like the double-chaise daybed from Viva Designs ($1,450) add a fun element over the mostly black woven pieces.

The shoppers: Anyone looking to furnish their new King West condo patio, Yorkville types who need the perfect seating arrangement for an upcoming cocktail party and browsers wandering in from the many modern furniture stores on King East. If you like the look of the Thompson Rooftop or the Spoke Club patio, this is the place for you.

Our favourite things: The glass and stainless steel outdoor fireplace by Magnifico ($2,600 small, $6,400 large) would transform even the weediest, tiniest backyard into a chic summer getaway. Besides, who says s’mores were only for the cottaging elite? And where better to sit and enjoy said calorie overload than the overstuffed beanbag chairs? Fancifully dubbed Fatboys, they come in sturdy nylon in every colour of the rainbow ($499 for outdoor models).
