You’ll never guess who owns Canada Goose now
It’s Mitt Romney‘s former company.
Bain Capital, a private-equity firm co-founded by the Republicans’ losing 2012 presidential candidate (he left the company in 2002 to pursue his political career), is buying a majority stake in Canada Goose, the Toronto-based maker of ubiquitous, puffy winter jackets. Bain’s success at wringing profits from the companies it acquires has been mixed. Even so, it’s unlikely that the coat-buying public will notice much of a difference in the short term. The Post is reporting that Dani Reiss, Canada Goose’s heir and CEO, will remain in charge.

These jackets just went from trendy to totally goddamn evil in one day.
They were already totally evil when they started skinning coyotes for fur. It looks like people are wearing dead dog trim around their hood. Poor geese getting brutally plucked. So cruel
Too bad, privately owned for 50 years! I hope it does not mean that they will be moved from being manufactured in Canada, but knowing consulting companies, that is exactly what they will do.

This video is awesome. I like CG; it is rare here in the States though. Hopefully it doesn’t go too downmarket like Northface has and now how Mountain HardWear will too. Mine do not have the coyote fur. Hopefully EvilBaine won’t send them to Sri Lanka etc.

It wasn’t always like this. People used to buy these jackets because they had some utility and value for them. But today it has become a trend and there are many people who buy it as a status symbol, to feel special. These same people will eventually get sick of it and turn to the next popular item when the time comes. They don’t know quality or value and wont notice when the inner label changes to Made In China. These people were douches even before they heard Canada Goose. The jacket itself has nothing to do with it.
My theory is that most fools wearing these jackets can’t afford them either, and that’s why we see people wearing them in October for Pete’s sake (let’s be honest: there’s no need for down or fur until the temperature goes below -10) – they broke the bank buying one and now can’t afford any other more weather-appropriate jackets, so are stuck with a wardrobe of 1 jacket! haha
Get over yourself, and all of you who liked this mans comment. Get over your directed/learned conceptions of what humanity is. The point of life is to survive. That is all, that is it. The society we live in is a lie: we are no different from the other animals, we are animals with the added bonus/curse of consciousness. And if your consciousness is telling you that it’s cruel to keep yourself warm, then maybe consciousness should be fazed-out by natural selection. Let humans in the north die from the cold instead. What do you think?

Bought a North Face jacket instead of a Canada Goose because they rim their hoods with synthetic rather than coyote fur. For Toronto winters that’s been fine, I have yet to die from cold. How’s that for perspective?

The main appeal of these jackets was that they were made in Canada by Canadians. I guess now they will shift production to China, layoff most of the Canadian staff, and raise prices. And produce crap! Perhaps a fellow Canadian can step up and continue to produce similar jackets made in Canada made by Canadians ( just re-hire the Canadians let go by Canada Goose).

I totally agree, and forget about coyotes, people in Greenland using polar bear fur for clothing. But I also think it’s not necessary to use furs for fashion purpose, especially in areas that an old good wool jumper would do the trick, there’s really no need to kill an animal
