Avril Lavigne will be showing at New York Fashion Week; the world asks: why?
According to Fashionista, Avril Lavigne is showing off her brand, Abbey Dawn, on a runway during New York Fashion Week at trade show Style 360, which to most—including Fashionista and Refinery 29—seems unnecessary, considering the brand is known by young children for its hoodies and T-shirts. Lavigne—skater girl, to some—has gone through many transformations, from the rebellious punk “rawker” of the early noughties to her 2005 modelling career, 2006 wife phase and, most recently, a bratty “I can do what I want” phase that seems to give her licence to have sex without considering her partner’s feelings and crash a car very slowly.
But the Converse-wearing, sometimes bratty, sometimes goth-y Canadian is looking to move in a new direction, at least with her designs, as she will be filling out her women’s line with dresses, skirts, denim, handbags and eyewear and launching a menswear line. Those interested in a “high-energy runway fashion show” (her words) will be wise to start chipping their black nail polish now.
