The place

A custom-built five-bedroom house within walking distance of Royal York subway station.

Here’s the front entrance:

And the living room:

Which connects to the dining room and a sitting area with a fireplace:

The kitchen has granite counters:

This is the first of five bedrooms:

And this one, we can only imagine, was one of the daughters’ rooms:

And the other:

Those rooms share a double bathroom:

Here’s the spacious master:

With an equally massive walk-in closet:

Plus an ensuite with both a tub and shower stall:

The master bedroom also has its own balcony above the backyard:

There’s one more bedroom in the 1,475-square-foot basement:

As well as a den:

And a corner that’s currently a home office:

And a rec room:

There’s a deck and patio in the back, and a separate entrance to the basement:

The history

The house was originally a ranch bungalow built in 1959. When its present owners—a 40-something couple with two young daughters—bought the place in 2013, it had already been rebuilt: the interior, including the basement, had been gutted, a two-storey addition had been built at the back of the house, and the front exterior had been changed from brick to stone. The owners expanded the size of the patio and upgraded the fence in the backyard. They are relocating to New York this summer for work; they have jobs in the alcohol business. They are looking for an executive with a family who will commit to, at minimum, a one-year lease.

Major perk

The ground and second floor offer 3,197 square feet, which is bigger than the usual Sunnylea home, as well as 14-foot ceilings with crown moulding. There’s also plenty of outdoor space for summer parties: a balcony, a deck, a patio and a fire pit.

Possible deal breaker

Not every family (or, specifically, teenage boy) will dig the colour schemes in the kids’ bedrooms.
