House of the Week: $3.4 million for a four-bedroom in one of Toronto’s most charming pockets

House of the Week: $3.4 million for a four-bedroom in one of Toronto’s most charming pockets

ADDRESS: 79 Baby Point Crescent

NEIGHBOURHOOD: Lambton Baby Point

AGENT: Christine Deanna Simpson, Royal LePage Real Estate Services Ltd.

PRICE: $3,400,000

THE PLACE: With wood accents everywhere (the second-floor foyer, the library with fireplace, the stately entranceway), cozy bedrooms, carriage house garage doors and bright red shutters, one could easily dub this the best luxury cottage in the city. And unlike the manors in Muskoka, the driving time from downtown Toronto is negligible.

BRAGGING RIGHTS: The house was built in 1938 as the home of W.M. Magwood, one of the first mayors of the York region (later to be annexed into Toronto). The area dates back to the 1600s, when the Seneca tribe lived here in a village known as Teiaiagon, near the Humber River. It’s now one of the city’s most charming little pockets.

BIG SELLING POINT: Most would name the hot tub on the patio next to the master bedroom, but to us, the craft room in the basement sells it. It’s never been easier to pretend to be Candy Spelling or Martha Stewart.

POSSIBLE DEAL BREAKER: If you want modern, this is not the place for you. In addition to the lore, there’s nary a floor without terra cotta tile or hardwood finishing. Die-hard modernists should look elsewhere, but charm-seekers will be thrilled.
