Cottage of the Week: $15 million for an over-the-top lumberjack’s paradise in Muskoka
ADDRESS: 1100 Delbrooke Road
NEIGHBOURHOOD: Lake of Bays, Muskoka
AGENT: Michael Constable , Sotheby’s International Realty Canada
PRICE: $15,000,000
THE PLACE: This enormous Canadiana-themed cottage has it all: eight bedrooms, nine bathrooms, an impressive great room, floor-to-ceiling fireplaces, a private beach, a putting green, a hot yoga room, a sauna and a massive boat house.
BRAGGING RIGHTS: The cowboy-style games room with saddle bar stools and a swinging door straight out of a saloon should make for some raucous Western-themed evenings—you may even be able to invite country singer Shania Twain, who is rumoured to have a cottage nearby.
BIG SELLING POINT: Set in the northeast corner of the Muskoka district, this cottage compound is quieter than the sometimes overcrowded Muskoka Lakes area, but still has the bucolic woodlands and pristine water that the area is famous for.
POSSIBLE DEAL BREAKER: The Inukshuk and iron moose sculpture in the backyard may be a little kitschy (but then again, no one could accuse you of failing to commit to the woodsy theme).
BY THE NUMBERS:
• $15,000,000

why selling? i’d turn it into a hotel!
wow- I know everyone has their own taste in decorating- but holy crap- it looks like a Bass Pro Shop.
Is this seriously someone’s cottage?….it looks more like a themed bed & breakfast. Such a shame to waste a nice piece of land on something so tacky and so darn expensive.
That’s so awful I think it comes back around to awesome.
Are we sure the photos aren’t actually of a Disneyworld hotel? It’s so…themed. It would be fun to stay in for a week, but I can’t imagine owning it or living in it for months at a time!
If you’re going to do kitsch and camp, you might as well go all out. It reminds me of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics’ closing ceremony. I actually find the look of the house delightfully whimsical, though I agree with the previous commenters that it should be converted into some sort of lodging property like a B and B.
Even though at $15 million a wee bit over the top, I give them kudos for an actual cottage look. I’m so sick of cottages now looking like suburban homes.
15 Million
Shows you you cant buy good taste.
What a load of crap.
wouldn’t stay there ever and wouldn’t buy that crap for even 5 milion
Garbage.
“That’s so awful I think it comes back around to awesome.” (Anna)
… My thoughts exactly. Would make a great B&B for rich (very) folks from Asia/Europe to get a taste of the Muskokas…
That’s an ambitious asking price- and it’s Lake of Bays, which is on the wrong side of Huntsville- technically Muskoka, but if you want to spend 15 Million on a cottage you might as well get a place on Rosseau, Jo or Muskoka…
“That’s so awful I think it comes back around to awesome.” CLASSIC and I have to agree.
I thought Red Green would be photobombing somewhere wearing a garland of duct-tape.
I also agree with jen. It should be a high-priced B & B for those who don’t know any better.
What ever happened to under-stated? I guess there’s always something to complain about… Everything is just so over-decorated these days.
The dead animal head is repulsive. Animal lover are you? Hope that animal haunts this place and makes it so you can’t sell it until you remove it’s sad dead head from your wall.
Talk about Nuveaux Riche! How vulgar can you get. This place is an insult to Muskoka and to the beautiful piece of land upon whioh it sits. I can’t even imagine the kind of person who would even begin to think of buying this. I guess the same kind of tacky people who built it.
For only $15mn you can live in Rainforest Cafe…
My family cottage is on a nearby road, I’m tempted to see if I can get a look from the road/water haha but yes, so ugly it’s awesome. And honestly after watching lil’family cottages on the lake get torn down and replaced either by mansions or beige siding – this is a treat!
Holy Crap, Holy Crap, Holy Crap, don’t give these people any more money to waste on building somewhere else near me.
To the comment above about it being on the wrong side of Huntsvile…. Most people I know from Lake Muskoka who have visited Lake of Bays are blown-away by its majesty and striking beauty. This is Muskoka’s second largest lake, and by far it’s most beautiful. It’s well worth the extra 30 minutes to get here over Lake Muskoka/Joseph/Rosseau. Watch it quietly become the most exclusive (though hopefully with more refined taste than this cottage). This lake lacks the inns and resorts, but also most of the trash that those places attract. It’s still relaxed, attracting some good money building quality summer homes….
“…but also most of the trash that those places attract”? What complete and utter snobbery and pretentiousness. A post that makes me truly feel sorry for you, Robert.
Just saw this on TV, My Retreat. Owners going on how they love the place, hmmm.
I understand the property is for sale again at a new price. I think the old comments were over the top. It looks fun, whimsical and very well built to me. Any new owner can personalize the inside, it’s the beautiful structures and huge waterfront property on Lake of Bays that matter.
I have been there, this cottage is a dream vacation home! I would love to own this paradise on lake of bays! Every detail, to the hand carved stairways, to the perennial gardens, private beach…amazing boathouse…..I can go on and on! You need to see it!
We love visiting Mooses Point. The scenery is breath taking from every angle of the cottage. The gardens are outstanding and bring each new season a breathtaking bouquet of amazing flowers. Each interior room demonstrates creativity and craftsmanship -and the level of quality is second to none. The boathouse not only houses various boats and watercraft but also provides a great place to soak up the sun and share incredible sunsets. Always look forward to being invited over.
This is a gorgeous Family Retreat that anyone would love to own. The immaculate detail and warmth of this home along with the beautiful Lake of Bays waterfront certainly make this a treasure. Literally a Dream Home.
As a cottage builder and a competitor to the company that built Moose Point I have to say that this is an amazing cottage that has all of the best features I see in today’s cottage designs. I feel in love with this cottage the first time I saw it. And you cannot buy this much cottage for the same money on other Muskoka Lakes.I must also support Lake of Bays as the best cottage lake in Muskoka. Lake of Bays has the most beautiful shorelines and rollings hills beyond the shores. I appreciate the fact that Lake of Bays has the best water quality and is not as noisy as the other Muskoka lakes.Apart from being a beautiful cottage Moose Point has by far the best lake view on Lake of Bays. I believe this article is incorrect, the asking price for that cottage is half of what is stated.

My husband, children and I have been fortunate enough to have been invited to Moose Point on more than one occasion. It is breathtaking and enchanting. Whimsical touches are everywhere, beautifully crafted by some of Muskoka’s finest artisans, who used indigenous materials. We know the contractor and his work well. He built a boathouse for us, and although obviously a very modest project comparatively, he gives his attention to detail in projects both big and small. As an aside, we also know the owners, who are generous, warm-hearted and down-to-earth people who respect and care about the community we all share on Lake of Bays. The only thing I find over-the-top are some of the dated comments posted by people who clearly have never set foot in the home nor have ever met the owners. Moose Point, while large and luxurious, is nevertheless a cottage in keeping with the architecture and spirit of Lake of Bays.
