The zoo kicks its year-round programming up a notch with week-long day camps. Themed weeks, all with an edutainment element, are geared to various age groups; younger kids might focus on feline facts one week and animal babies the next, while older kids have the chance to learn about conservation and caring for sick and injured animals. Special behind-the-scenes activities, such as making food treats for the animals or a close encounter with a bearded dragon, are camp highlights. Staffed by university students, many of whom are studying science or biology, the camp includes the usual fun fare of songs, games and nature activities. Snacks provided; bring your own lunch. Ages six to 16.
Hours:
June 30 to Aug. 29 (registration begins in Feb.), M–F 9:30–3:30; daycare before and after camp $5 per day per child
How much:
zoo members $225 per week, non-members $245; half-day camp (ages four and five), members $115, non-members $125
