This unassuming warehouse is a long way from the beach—both physically and spiritually—but it’s one of the few stores in the city that’s geared toward windsurfing. With a guarantee to match any competitor’s prices, SS will outfit and equip a surfer from head to toe for about $334, and offers boards from Bic, Starboard and JP ($899–$1,299). When the water freezes over, SS caters to snowboarding kamikazes. On one visit, a Cabrinha Empire Snowboard with Effect bindings rung in at just under $450 (a 35 per cent discount). Cross-country ski packages start at $299, complete with Fischer skis and Salomon boots and bindings. Cyclists should go to the back of the store for the selection of bikes. For new kids’ wheels, prices begin at $169 (for a 20-inch Norco ZX80), while adults can hop on a Norco Mirage for $599.
