This glorious 1893 building is a sterling example of Romanesque revival architecture. An imposing staircase, decorated with elaborate cast iron, leads to the second floor and the grand Assembly Chamber. The hand-carved wood detailing, evident throughout the building, is stunning. Carrara marble balustrades ornament the west wing, which was rebuilt in 1909 after a fire destroyed it. The eastern edge of the surrounding park features a memorial dedicated to the soldiers who died suppressing the Northwest Rebellion of 1885.
